Movie: A Bug's Life

Credit: http://www.disneystore.com/a-bug-s-life/mn/1011004/

This movie is basically about a bug named Flik who is a really innovative ant. Even when his friends did not like his innovations, he still confident with himself to change their future. Actually, the ants were ordered by Hopper, the leader or the grasshopper community to collect food for them for winter. So Flik wanted to help his community by his awesome inventions. However, one day he made a mistake, causing all the food collected fall into the river. Hopper was really mad when he found no food for them but he gave the bugs another chance before the winter came. Flik was really guilty so he decided to search for warrior bugs to fight against the grasshoppers instead of serving them. Yes, he finally brought back some bugs before he knew that they were actually circus bugs. However, Flik's judicious idea worked with help of the circus bugs and others. They worked together to build a fake bird to scare the grasshoppers. Lastly, Hopper was eaten by a real bird and they lived peacefully forever.

It's a very interesting movie indeed. I eminently love it because I get to know more about how the life of bugs goes. As all of us know, they have their own queen and princess. I don't know this is true or not but the royal family of the ants as shown in the movie have their own wings! The bugs also had their own city, made up of trashes such as boxes and cans. So, don't litter if you don't want your place to be the city of bugs!

There are many lessons that I have learned from the movie A Bug's Life. One of the most important lesson, be INNOVATIVE! We should make Flik as an idol to demonstrate this lesson. In the modern days, it is really important to invent things to make life easier. Most of the inventors will actually get high demand, especially when the inventions are registered for patent. Do you know what is patent? When somebody's inventions already have patent, no one can copy their design, except they pay to the person. So, it is better to immediately register it once you figure out an idea before somebody else take it! Also, don't really care about the useless comments by people. You should be confident of yourself! Remember, if people are trying to bring you down, it only means that you are above them. Beginning with just a small seed, it can grow into an enormous tree which its fruit, leaves, branches and roots are beneficial for the creatures.

I believe this material is really suitable to Malaysians in order to achieve Wawasan 2020. The government encourages people to become innovative so that our country will be leading in the Science and Technology sector.

One main problem I encountered in this movie was bullies. In the reality, it often happens in schools where seniors bullied the juniors. In this movie, the grasshoppers act as if they were the most powerful bugs there. They forced the ants to find food for them, which is really cruel. I think they should organize a body to help against the bullies such as police. The police will catch and punish any bugs who act violently towards others.

Because of its interesting storyline and lessons, I really recommends this movie to people who haven't watched it yet. Eventhough it is an animation and published by Disney, not only children can watch it. Most animations are suitable for all ages and they are actually fun!

Surely I will watch this movie again because it is the best movie I've ever watched! The innovative Flik, the funny circus bugs, Princess Anna (which became Queen Anna at last) and all the characters really made me enjoy it! I hope that more movies like this movie will be published by Malaysians. :)

Novel : The traitors by Tom Becker

The Traitors, a novel full of action. Adam Wilson was taken to a world for the traitors! He was accused to betray his own best friend, Danny for an incident related to his girlfriend. Adam was flabbergasted when a letter was sent to him that he was going to The Dial, a prison for the traitors. He tried to stay away from being caught, but the people always followed him anywhere he went. Once he took a walk along the shoreline, suddenly some men ran after him, trying to catch him. He ran and ran and ran when he accidentally tripped over a rock and finally being caught. Mr Pitt was the one he saw once he woke up. Mr Pitt was one of the wardens there, a really fierce warden. Most of people there were scared of him. Adam's first meeting with Mr Pitt didn't go nice. His questions and attitude really boiled him up. After that meeting, Adam was always targetted by Mr Pitt even when he did a little mess up. At the same time, Adam also planned to actually destroy The Dial. All that he knew was the commander was the one who control the 'door' to the outside world. At last, Adam managed to open it and let others free including the wardens. Mr Pitt was killed though when he accidentally fell off from an air balloon. However, the ending was quite surprising. Adam stayed in The Dial with a girl who didn't want to go home.

So, what did I learn from this story? First of all, of course, never betray your friends especially your best friend. We don't want to be like Adam Wilson, do we? Trapped in The Dial for a long time. I mean, if even The Dial does not exist, we did not want to be left by our friends and stay alone, right? Therefore, appreciate your friends. Next, be confident of yourselves. Adam Wilson was really brave to protect himself in front of the 'scary' Mr Pitt. He even have poured some water on Mr Pitt's head, causing him to beat Adam violently. However, that action really opened others mind on the true personality of Mr Pitt, which nearly made him to be fired. I really respect his bravery that I'm sure if I was him, I'll never do it.

If I was Adam Wilson, I think I would not just let the chance of getting way from The Dial. Even though The Dial became peaceful without Mr Pitt, the place would still remind me of the bad experiences there. It is better to just come back home and live happily with my own family. It's just my own opinion.

This material actually reflects our world current situation where people are killing and fighting in some wars such as in North Korea, Ukraine, Egypt and Palestine. Blood is like everywhere. The sound of bombs and bullets reached their ears every day as if they were their daily music. Smoke filled their clean air. All of this actually come from the traitors. They were trying to split the bonds between people there until it turns to a war. War is really bad as it will cause millions of people die, buildings are destroyed and lots of money should be spent to build again the city.

For me, I will read it again because it is quite interesting which the author have a great imagination on The Dial. The story line is also great. I recommend others to read this book also.
